Round-Robin Selection with Adaptable Frame-Size for Combined Input-Crosspoint Buffered Packet Switches

چکیده
Combined input-crosspoint buffered (CICB) switches relax arbitration timing and provide high-performance switching for packet switches with high-speed ports. It has been shown that these switches, with one-cell crosspoint buffer and round-robin arbitration at input and output ports, provide 100% throughput under uniform traffic. However, under admissible traffic patterns with nonuniform distributions, only weight-based selection schemes are reported to provide high throughput. This paper proposes a round-robin based arbitration scheme for a CICB packet switch that provides 100% throughput for several admissible traffic patterns, including those with uniform and nonuniform distributions, using one-cell crosspoint buffers and no speedup. The presented scheme uses adaptable-size frames, where the frame size is determined by the traffic load. key words: buffered crossbar, stability, adaptable frame, admissible traffic, crosspoint buffer

Combined Input-Crosspoint Buffered Packet Switch with Shared Crosspoint Buffers1
The amount of memory in buffered crossbars in combined input-crosspoint buffered switches is proportional to the number of crosspoints, or O(N), where N is the number of ports, and to the crosspoint buffer size, which is defined by the distance between the line cards and the buffered crossbar, to achieve 100% throughput under high-speed data flows. A long distance between these two components c...
متن کاملCIXOB-k: combined input-crosspoint-output buffered packet switch
We propose a novel architecture, a Combined Input-CrosspointOutput Buffered (CIXOB-k, where k is the size of the crosspoint buffer) Switch. CIXOB-k architecture provides 100% throughput under uniform and unbalanced traffic. It also provides timing relaxation and scalability. CIXOB-k is based on a switch with Combined Input-Crosspoint Buffering (CIXB-k) and round-robin arbitration. CIXB-k has a ...
متن کاملThroughput analysis of shared-memory crosspoint buffered packet switches
This paper presents a theoretical throughput analysis of two buffered-crossbar switches, called shared-memory crosspoint buffered (SMCB) switches, in which crosspoint buffers are shared by two or more inputs. In one of the switches, the sharedcrosspoint buffers are dynamically partitioned and assigned to the sharing inputs, and memory is sped up. In the other switch, inputs are arbitrated to de...
متن کاملCIXB-1: Combined Input-One-cell-Crosspoint Buffered Switch
Buffered crossbars have been considered as an alternative for non-buffered crossbars to improve switching throughput. The drawback of a buffered crossbar is the memory amount that is proportional to the square of the number of ports (O N ). This is not the main limitation when the buffer size is kept to a minimum size such that implementation is feasible. For a small buffer size, the number of ...
متن کاملOn the Maximum Throughput of a Combined Input-Crosspoint Queued Packet Switch
Combined input-crosspoint buffered (CICB) packet switches have been of research interest in the last few years because of their high performance. These switches provide higher performance than input-buffered (IB) packet switches while requiring the crosspoint buffers run at the same speed as that of the input buffers in IB switches. Recently, it has been shown that CICB switches with one-cell c...
